Meet Jen and Erin, our Summer Interns!

Meet our summer interns, Erin Mackaman and Jen Moss! Erin is bringing her lightning fast writing skills and sharp arts & culture perspective to the copywriting team, while Jen is diving headfirst into a host of design and illustration projects. Read on for why we’re so lucky to have these creative minds with us this summer.

Erin, Copywriting Intern

Where do you go to school and what do you study?

I will be a senior at the University of Minnesota, where I’m studying Strategic Communications, in the advertising track in the School of Journalism.

When I started at the U, I was a graphic design major. I got a C in Fundamentals of Color because my final project was “wrinkled” and decided to get out. Now I am happy as a clam in Strat Comm. I try to take one “weird” class every semester. So far, some of my favorites have been “Aliens” and “Prince, Porn and the Public Space.” Next semester, I’ll be taking a modern dance class and “Magic, Witchcraft, and Possession.”

Any passion projects, jobs or extracurriculars?

My side hustle is photography, and I help out at Shuttersmack (a local photo studio) often. Additionally, I do some light (and I can not emphasize this enough, LIGHT) graphic design freelance work for Minnesota Nice Cream, where I used to work as a barista. Otherwise, I’m trying to make myself go to the gym every morning before work and still have time for breakfast. We’ll see how long I can keep up with this.

What type of work are you most excited to try this summer?

Is it lame to say “all of it?”

I’m still figuring out how to make all my passions work together. I’ve spent a lot of time in the past focusing on photography, which I have loved, but I’m really happy to be dedicating most of my summer this year to exercising my love of words and branding.

I’m excited to understand the branding process better, and to be able to look at brands and decode their messaging faster. I hope to learn more about myself and leave the internship with new friends, fresh portfolio work, and to be a more well rounded person.

Favorite office snack so far?

I have averaged three Salted Nut Rolls and one Key Lime La Croix a day.

Jen Moss, Design Intern

Where did you go to school and what did you study?

I just graduated from the U of M with a degree in Graphic Design.

Any passion projects, jobs or extracurriculars?

Not much of a project, per se, but I’ve been flexing my illustration muscles more lately, thanks to some fun new tools I’ve been lucky enough to get ahold of. That aside, I’ve also been thinking of getting into watercolor painting a bit, as well.

What type of work are you most excited to try this summer?

I’m SUPER excited to get a better handle on After Effects, and dig a little deeper into some animation projects.

Favorite office snack so far?

The sour gummy bears!
